The etymology of bespoke as a blog title

I was going to name my blog, Brent’s Big Fat Blog, but thought it too long. So I’ve decided to call it Bespoke, and hopefully, the tailoring world will not judge me too harshly. The word bespoke is derived from the verb to bespeak, to “speak for something”, or “to give order for it to be made” The term bespoke in fashion is reserved for individually patterned and crafted men’s clothing and often implies a high level of fit and finish.  So what does bespoke mean as it relates to writing? I have no idea. I just like the word and the idea of an item that’s crafted with purpose and meaning. I’ve also carried many nicknames down through the years and an early grade school nickname was “B”. There you go. That’s the etymology of the blog title.

  1. I stumbled across one of your post on Facebook and appreciated its’ content. Moved right along to learn more after I read your son was in Norman. Aah…snagged me! Our family lived there from 1971-1991…our four sons attended OU, my husband Michael earned his MBA at OU, grandsons…OU. My husband died in October 2019. I write a blog “Balanced Heart” – for encouragement. Love writing and I will enjoy following yours…very nice!
