“We are coming to Salt Lake City!” I have been telling Steve and Suzan that for years. I finally followed through with a visit to SLC.
According to Steve Osborn, I am his longest tenured friend going back to 1967. We were watching the Sooners last night just like we did on New Years Eve in 1970 when the Bluebonnet Bowl ended in a tie, Alabama 28 Oklahoma 28.
This trivia question scrolled across the screen. “Name two college football coaches who competed against one another with at least 20 years tenure at their respective schools.” I said Frank Beamer and Steve said Bobby Bowden.
We were correct in stereo. We would not be right on our own. Most of our lives we have felt this profound truth. We are better together than we are alone.
This morning we worshipped together in a tent in a valley bordering the Oquirrh Mountains on the west and the Wasatch Mountains on the east.
We sang “it is well with my soul,” and read Psalm 34, “Oh, taste and see that the LORD is good!”
Steve is a storyteller, one of those people who won’t wait to interrupt himself mid-story if he thinks of something more interesting. Which I love. So many stories that lead to stories that lead to other stories along with laughter, and tears and deeply personal conversations. Karen and I are blessed to call Steve and Suzan friends.
